I bought a 93 with a 3vze and auto at the beginning of the month. Working through the unseen rust on the fuel and brake lines now. It was leaking fuel when I picked it up, but I didn't see the extent till I tapped the rust on the line coming from the tank. I fixed that with a salvaged line, tank & sender plus a new fuel pump since I was already in there. Now I'm looking for braided steel brake lines to replace the factory lines on the rail.

Where in Texas are you? How much of a restoration are you looking at? Pics?

rgreen501, I am in Houston. I was beginning to believe that nobody was on this forum since you were the only one that responded. Maybe there are more popular forums out there. I got lucky on my 4Runner SR5. It was in great shape. Looks brand new inside. Paint is a little worn. However I had to replace the motor because it was about to throw a rod. Bought a re-manufactured from ATK with warranty good for 3 years unlimited mileage. The injectors had to be replaced as well as the fuel pump and the radiator. It runs great I only have about 360 miles on it now. All the power window ect work. Put in a Alpine sound system 6 speakers. I really do like it a lot. Next mission is wheels, Think I will recondition them. Oh and replace the cracking tires. LOl. try to load pics later. Take care.

I've tried several forums. Yotatech.com has some decent threads to look at for your build, but none seem particularly active.

My exterior is dent free, but there is rust and bad paint on the hood. I don't mind the paint so much, but the rust on the frame and brakes is something I'll have to deal with.

My interior is pretty clean for a 20 year old vehicle. Got a cracked dash, the driver's seat has wear and I'm missing the rear seat, but it's just me and the dog, so I don't care about the back seat. The engine and transmission are good. 167k on the motor and the head gasket was done previously.

I've got 17" wheels from a FJ and have been thinking of buying a set of 15" so I can get more sidewall. The tires on it now are 265/65R17 and will likely need replaced in another 20k, but the rubber is good and no cracks.

My next project (until I find the brake lines) is to add a 2 meter ham. Finding space in the roof to drill for an antenna will be tough. The sunroof and rack take up most of the available room, but I'll work something out.

It's a gas hog, but it runs well and after adjusting the brakes, it even stops. In spite of the rust, I'm happy with it so far. It'll haul kayaks just fine. That was really the only thing I was worried about when selecting a vehicle.

If you find an active forum, please let me know. There are many, but few are centered around the 4Runner.
