Default Rear Window 3rd Gen

Yes another rear window issue. I have searched the forums and think the issue is my relay. I.e., window works with key in tailgate but using he switch only goes down.

So here is my question. Where is the relay in the 3gen 4Runners? Same as the second gen? Are the relays the same? I'm hoping to hot wire the relay according to this article --> http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTri...ow.shtml#Relay

Thanks

NO RELAY BUT A MODULE IN REAR HATCH.
CHECK THE MODULE FOR WATER DAMAGE (CORROSION).
MOST LIKEY BAD SWITH UP FRONT OR BAD MODULE IN HATCH.
REPLACE SWITH FIRST, LESS EXPENSIVE.

It is the switch. I took it apart and was able toi get the window to go both up and down but broke the switch in the process. I'm looking for a good deal on a swithc on ebay right now.

Thanks for the info, Ben

this will get a bit technical.
first we need to check to see if the signal is being sent to the module in rear hatch from switch.
the switch up front is not a typical 12v.
use a voltmeter.
it sends a signal of 1-8v in the up or down position.
write down the color wire at the switch of the side that does not work(up position) and the exact voltage.
now go to the back with the voltmeter find the module in rear hatch poke at the same wire u wrote down earlier.
have some push the up position on switch and see if u get the same voltage within +/- 5-10%.
this will let us know if the signal is being sent to the module. if not, then there is a break in the wire somewhere between the dash switch and the rear module.
if the signal is there then the module is bad.
i'm pretty sure the module is bad. but the module is not cheap. best to check for signal before buying a new module.
3 parts to the rear window.
switch,window motor,module.
u have replaced switch.
the window motor works because u said it rolls up and down with key.
last part is module.

let me know how things worked out.

Thanks for the info. I poped off the tail gate cover. Where is the relay? What does it look like. Can't find the dumb thing anywhere. I did order a toyota repair manual on CD, I believe they are the shop manuals. Biut they haven't arived yet so I have't been able to look it up.

in my 2001 4runner the module is a orange box. about 5" by 3.5"
it has about 10+ wires coming off of it.
it's in the rear hatch behind the panel.
yes, tail gate.
