Default Problem with CEL that keeps coming on.

OK so here is the deal. I have had this check engine light that keeps poping on. It has gone off once by itself already, but it's starting to **** me off. I have already made sure the cap was sealed at least 3 clicks and it was, but after filling up and clicking it about 6 times, the light just went off when I started it back up; that was a week ago. Well driving down the road today it just poped onagain. All seems to be running fine. I did have some axle work done last week and they said it was a common code and to make sure and click the gas cap and they cleared it for free for me. Well I have also checked all vacume lines, computer connections, etc and even consulted the old chitons manual, but I can't get it to stop poping on. I live in the midwest but this is a California 4 runner, 2000 V6 SR5 model. I am at my wits and knowledge end and can't bare to take it to the dealer again, they just charge so much money. Anyone with a computer that lives near branson Missouri want to meet and help me out?!?!?! Frigin toys.
