Default Personl Lights (Map Lights)

Afternoon all,

A number of questions: I am trying to find RED bulbs for the Personal Lights (as Toyota refers to them) or the driver/passenger map lights on my 03 4Runner.

I do alot of night driving and am trying to reduce the harsh white light and destroying my night vision when I need interior light. Does anyone know if these bulbs are available and if so, where? How about RED replacement lenses for the lights, if bulbs not available?

Finally, depending on the above answers, how does one go about replacing the bulbs or replacing the lenses?

In the manual, Toyota does not give any nomenclature for the bulb (type, wattage, etc). I'm presuming they believe the bulb will never need replacement.

Thanks in advance/SWO

Are you talking about the gauge lights in the dash or lights on the rearview mirror/cab roof?

If its the lights in the dash just dim them. If its the lights in the mirror/roof pull the bulb out. It should have a number on it or if not take it to Vatozone or Pepboyz and compare it to the other lights. You should be able to find a red or orange one. Good luck.

Ok, a bit of clarity on the lights. Not Dash. Just in front of the rearview mirror, overhead. Press up on the lens to turn it on, press again turns it off. Bright white. One for driver, one for passenger.

Doesn't appear you can simply remove the bulb, as I have not yet figured out how to get to the bulb. Thot maybe I cud get to it via the sunglass holder. No joy there either.

Will go to the dealer if I have to, but trying to avoid that.

Thanks

I'm not really familiar with your year model due to I can't afford that. If you can find clips or screws that hold the lights to the roof try to remove them and get the lights from the top.
