Default need some drivetrain advice

i own a mostly stock 4wd99 sr5 w/about 80 thousand miles on it. it has a 4 speedauto trans that seems to give me a slight thump (it feels like a bump when you come to a stop while towing a trailer)when i come to stop. it happens sporadically, and i have checked the rear driveshaft, and it looks o.k. is this normal, or is there maybye a problem with my transmission? any advice would be helpful. has anyone else experienced this? my shift lever noticably moves when i am accelerating, but every toyota truck i have owned did the same thing, so i dont think my transmission mountsor crossmemberis loose.

I have an 2004 4-wheel drive (full time) 4Runner. The drive train fairly regularly thumps, bumps and clangs upon stopping, upon starting-up from a stop, and when accelerating after ideling along from 10 - 15 miles per hour. The automatic door locks don't work right either, but that's another story. I've taken it to the local dealer and they just blew me off. I've written complaint letters to Toyota and gotten the same treatment. Sorry, I don't have the answer to your question. I should have bought an American car......ha, ha.

the conditons you described are EXCACTLY what is going on with my 4 runner. i took it to a dealer too, and they pretty much blew me off as well, telling me that it was normal. yeah, whatever. i hope it's not an internal problem with my diff, or worse yet, my transmission. i'm still wondering if this is a common problem with the 4-runner.</P>
