Drop in gas mileage after 60K Service
Hello. I am a new member and have a 03 4 Runner with the 4.7L and 2wd.
I bought the vehicle new and have taken it to the dealer for all the routine scheduled maintenance since new. I consistenly got about 19 miles per gallon on combined city/highway driving until the dealer completed the 60K mile service.
Since that service and beginning with the first fill-up i have lost about 2 miles per gallon over the last 8,000 miles. Prior to the 60K service I filled up with about 20.5 gallons after 380-390 miles. Since the service I am only getting about 350-360 miles but still filling up with 20.5 gallons.
My driving habits have not changed, absolutely nothing has changedand the drop began immediately after the service.
Any ideas why?Thanks - Mark

RE: Drop in gas mileage after 60K Service
I had it back for the 65K oil/tire rotation and asked the service tech writer about it he indicated it's "normal" after the fuel injection treatment but said it should only drop in mileage for about 1000 miles as the "computer relearns" the new air fuel ratios and makes the appropriate adjustments it sees which are different after the cleaning. I told him it still low on mileage and he shrugged his shoulders and said it "should get better".
So far it hasn't.

RE: Drop in gas mileage after 60K Service
I agree the injector cleaner is probably a scam. They tried to do it at the 30K service and I refused becasue it wasn't listed in the owners manual as recommended by Toyota but I think it is listed as part of the 60K service.
The rub is that the thing runs the same as it did before, no better or no worse, no skipping, rough idle, hesitation, nothing yet the mileage dropped and has stayed the same. I fill up at the same station 95% of the time so the gas "should" be the same and I've been using that station since new (it's less than a mile from my house) soif there was a difference between the winter and summer gas "blends" I would think the average mpgs would have shown drops before with these changes in blends.
At first it was not a big deal but since gas is now $3.00 a gallon I'm going to press them on this and see if it can be fixed.
