Guess no one has any idea if a manual gear box of the same engine will fit straight into an auto?

Hey Luke, a good place to check might be "Yotatech", a solid technical forum. Also, might want to give a call to Advance Adapters--those guys know swaps, and can supply many of the parts you may need. Sorry I don't know much about the early Runners, and this isn't the most active forum I've come across. Good luck!

Luke if you are working with a 22re then the answer to your question is yes it is possible its not the easiest mod to do, but yes it is possible. you will need his tranny, the whole pedal assembly (gas brake and clutch) remember to get the clutch line at least. I would recommend a new slave and master cylinder. there should be marks on the body where the clutch pedal bolts would go through but they will be undrilled (toyota molded all the bodys the same and then punched them out depending on options) then the same goes for the shifter hole, although I have seen some trucks that are not marked for the shifter. if you have a basic tool set a drill and a sawzall you can do it. last note is that if you have the option it might be a good idea to grab the tranny cross member also as I have seen variations of these parts depending on transmission. I almost did this mod to a 91 but sold it to a buddy who I helped complete the swap and it came out damn nice. I took us about 6-7 hours in the driveway, but we had cucstom 3ft tall jack stands and put it up with 3 high lift jacks and 3 people
