Looking to buy an 04-05 4Runner
Hi All,
I am new to this forum, as I am now in the market for a used 4Runner. I took one for a test drive the other day, and I am in love.
I am dead set on getting the Limited version, as I like my bells and whistles. My budget is limitting me to the 2005 model, and I don't want to go any older than the 2004 model. But am focusing on the 2005 as it has the variable valve timing.
From my research so far, I hear the 4Runner is rock solid and will last a VERY long time so I am not overly worried about high kilometeres (or should I be). Looking through the local car listings I see the 4Runner's available in the 04-05 years have between 80K-125K KM on them ( 50K - 80K Miles ).
I am wondering if there any known issues I should be looking out for when buying a 4Runner at this mileage and age.
Any insight would be much appreciated.
Some examples of what I am looking to find out are as listed below.
1) Are there any commonly known faulty electronics or mechanical equipement I should watch out for?
2) What mechanical parts should have been replaced by this time? Or need looking into.
ex. timing belt, alternator, (the not so regular maintenance stuff), etc..
3) Any popular rust spots on the body or underbody to watch out for?
4) Anything else I should be wary of.
I understand before buying a vehicle, I need to make sure everything is working and I will be getting the car looked at by a mechanic. I am just looking to save some time and decrease my chances of buying a lemon.
Any help or insight would be much appreciated.
I can't wait to have me a 4Runner.
Thank you very much in advance.
Soon to be 4Runner owner,
Deryk.

I just purchased a 2005 with 95000 miles in snow country.
No rust or trouble spots on the body, but bubbling on the wheels in places
Love the vehicle, it drives and feels great!
I get 18-19 mpg around town and 20-21 highway
You can't go wrong if you can find the right price
