paint problem

paint problem
hey, my '94 green 4runner has a spot of grey about 3x3 feet... on the roof of the car.. is tehre way i can take care of it myself w/o going to the shop.. the pain was just woren off, obviously the previous owner didn't take of it..

As long as the spot is not showing rust, primer has no scratches or bubbles, just clean up the edges ( try to feather the edges with orbital sander if available) get a can of sandable etching primer, a spray bomb colour match, and a can of clear coat. ( only do this if your truck is a base clear coat, but i'm pretty sure the 97 is). Once edges are feathered out. clean area with acetone. Apply primer lightly at first (tack coat), then paint to cover. Once Dry. Sand with 100-200 grit paper. clean agin with acetone. Repeat painting proccess with paint the same as you did with the primer. Once dry, apply clear coat, try to blend the paint and clear coat 4-6 in. out passed the damage area. This should do the trick, the final result will be pretty good.
