tranny question
Hi folks, I think I posted this in the wrong sub-forum, and that is why no one responded .
My son just bought a used 2001 4runner with 112k miles. We think he might be having tranny slippage. What is the best way to check it out. Diagnostic center ? Tranny garage ? Other ?
Isn't it uncommon for a 4runner tranny to fail at 112k ?
Also, I am sort of mad because we brought the car to Toyota for a check out before we bought it and they did not flag the problem.
Any suggestions ?
By the way, any idea what a rebuilt tranny costs ?
Thanks.
Hi guys, is there an admin. in this forum ? I just want to know if there is any life in them there hills ???

cheapest way,you should try and change the trans fluid, on my 00 4runr it has a drain plug, just make sure to put the correct amount back in see if this helps, if problems persist you'll need to have a repair (trans) shop service it vacuum out the converter to get all the fluid out. and they can run the needed test to see if other problems exist..

I bought a 2001 SR5 for my son and at first we thought the tranny was slipping but now that I have driven it a little more I think it is rough shifting rather than slipping. Is it possible that it is just shifting a little rougher than other cars I am used too ?

is the car a automatic, since there is quite a bit of milage on the car and if you're not sure if the trans been serviced before, doing the fluid should be done, also it could be low? it does'nt cost much to replace the fluid about 3 quarts will drain from he plug.12-15 dollars. to have the entire system flushed would be about 150. to 180. to be done better way to have it done.
